THE PLÁ DE PETRACOS SANCTUARY: THE ARCHAEOSASTRONOMIC THEORY VERSUS THE HYPOTHESIS OF THE MOTHER GODDESS
Abstract
The publication of the archaeoastronomical theory on el Plá de Petracos in number 10 of the Revista
Cuadernos de Arte Prehistórico, with the paradigm shift that it involves, mainly from a chronological
point of view, has elicited Roche's reaction in a subsequent paper trying to assimilate it to the classical
hypothesis of the early Neolithic cult of the Mother Goddess. In the present article we refute that such
cult was maintained in Petracos because there is no female figure represented, with the unequivocal
clarity, to accept it, and that it is also characterized by the attributes of those in that period. However,
the software Stellariun shows us that the paintings represent outstanding palaeoastronomical events
that were worshiped.
